The service

## Why people choose composite for the front of the house
A composite door is a solid slab construction rather than a hollow frame with panels clipped into it. That is what you feel when you close one: it lands with weight, it sits tight against its seals, and it does not flex when you lean on the handle. For a front door, the one visitors see and the one you rely on for security, that difference is worth paying for.

The finish is the second reason. Composite doors hold their colour and their surface far better than a painted timber door, which means no rubbing down and repainting every couple of summers. A wipe with soapy water is the entire maintenance schedule.

We fit composite front doors as part of the same measured-survey process we use for everything else. Draycote Windows has been doing this across Staffordshire and the surrounding areas for years, with 20 to 25+ years' experience each.

### Tired or draughty front doors
If the existing door has dropped, leaks air, or no longer locks without a shove, replacement is cheaper than living with it.

### Homes where the front door is the feature
On most streets the door is the first thing anyone looks at. Composite gives you a solid look with colour that lasts.

### Security-conscious households
Solid core construction plus properly aligned multi-point locking is a meaningful step up from a worn-out door.

### Anyone tired of repainting timber
Timber front doors need regular attention. Composite does not. That is often the deciding factor.

What it costs to leave it

## The front door is the weakest point in most houses, and it fails quietly
Front doors deteriorate in ways people stop noticing. The lock gets a bit stiffer each winter. The draught excluder gets replaced instead of the seal. The paint gets touched up instead of the timber getting fixed. By the time it is obviously a problem, the frame has usually moved too.

### Forced entry gets easier every year
A door that needs lifting to lock is a door whose multi-point mechanism is not fully engaging. That is exactly the condition that makes a break-in quicker.

### Heat leaves through the hall
The hallway feeds the stairs and every room off it. A leaking front door drags warm air out of the whole ground floor.

### Rot and water damage spread inwards
Once water gets past the threshold or into a timber frame, it moves into the floor and the reveal. Putting that right costs far more than the door did.

### The mistakes we get called out to fix

- Replacing the slab but keeping a frame that has already moved out of square
- Choosing a door on colour alone with no thought to the locking specification
- Fitting glazing where toughened glass is required and ignoring the regulation
- Accepting a quote that gets 'adjusted' after the survey
- Skipping the threshold detail, so the new door leaks in exactly the same spot
- Buying from an installer with no insurance-backed guarantee behind the fitting

Our process

## Five steps, the same on every job we take on
Step 1

### Inspection
We check the existing door, frame, threshold and brickwork, and give you a free verbal quote there and then.

Step 2

### Measured survey
Exact opening sizes, hinge side, glazing, colour and hardware confirmed. And confirmed with you in writing before manufacture starts.

Step 3

### Manufacture and order
Your door is manufactured to those measurements. The price is fixed and never added to. Minimum 10 weeks from order.

Step 4

### Installation
Old door and frame removed, new frame fixed square into sound masonry, sealed both sides, slab hung and locking set.

Step 5

### Testing and guarantee
You lock and unlock it with us there, we adjust anything that needs it, and the job is registered for the IWA insurance-backed guarantee.

What you get

## The difference a properly fitted job makes

### Solid feel and solid security
A dense composite slab combined with multi-point locking that has been properly aligned to its keeps on fitting day.

### Colour that stays put
The finish resists fading and marking far better than paint, so the door still looks deliberate years later.

### Sealed against draughts
Full-perimeter compression seals with a correctly set threshold: the hallway stops being the cold part of the house.

### No maintenance cycle
No sanding, no undercoat, no topcoat, no swollen door in wet weather. Soapy water and that is it.

### Transparent pricing, agreed at survey
We arrange a survey, put the price in writing, and it stays exactly as agreed once work begins.

### Insurance-backed backed cover
IWA insurance-backed guarantee on workmanship and frames, Assured registered, comprehensive public liability insurance.

In detail

## Composite construction, glazing and hardware explained
Composite doors vary widely in quality, and most of what separates a good one from a poor one is invisible once it is hung. Here is what we look at when specifying yours.

### Slab construction
A composite door is built as a solid slab with an insulating core and a durable outer skin, rather than assembled from thin sections. That construction is what gives it the weight, the rigidity and the thermal performance.

It is also why composite doors do not swell and stick in wet weather the way a timber door does: a common reason people replace a front door in the first place.

### Glazing options
Full glazed, half glazed, quarter panels, side lights and top lights are all possible depending on how much daylight you want in the hall and how much privacy you need at the front.

Where glazing sits at a position covered by building regulations, toughened glass is specified as a matter of course. Obscure patterns are available where the door faces a path or a neighbouring window.

### Frames, thresholds and fixing
The best slab in the world performs badly in a frame that is not square or not properly fixed. We remove the old frame, check the opening, pack and fix the new frame into sound masonry, and seal it inside and out.

Threshold detailing decides whether water runs away from the house or into the floor. It gets set correctly rather than sealed over afterwards.

### Hardware and finishes
Handles, letterplates, knockers, spyholes, hinges and cylinder specification are agreed at survey and matched across the property where you want a consistent look.

Colour is chosen at survey too, and because composite holds its finish there is no practical reason to stick to a safe colour if you want a strong one.

### Composite versus UPVC versus aluminium
Composite is the pick for a front door where solidity and appearance matter most. UPVC in Eurocell or Rehau profile is the sensible option for back doors, utility doors and where budget leads. Smarts aluminium bi-folds are the answer when you want to open up a whole rear elevation rather than replace a single door.

We fit all three, so the recommendation you get is based on the opening rather than on what we happen to stock.

### Domestic and commercial use
For homes, composite front doors are fitted in a single visit and the property is left secure before we leave site.

For commercial entrances with heavy daily traffic, we will discuss whether a commercial-grade door set is the better specification, we take on commercial work as well as domestic.

Questions we get asked

## Composite Doors: straight answers
How much does a composite front door cost fitted? The price depends on size, glazing, colour and hardware. We'll survey the job and set out a written quote so there are no surprises before you go ahead.

How long does fitting take?A composite front door is normally a same-day installation. Manufacturing is the longer part: plan on a minimum of 10 weeks from order.

Are composite doors more secure than UPVC?A composite slab is denser and more rigid, which helps. But most real-world security comes from multi-point locking that fully engages and a frame that is fixed properly into sound masonry. We do both as standard.

What guarantee do I get?A insurance-backed guarantee through IWA covering the workmanship and the frames. We are Assured registered and hold comprehensive public liability cover.

How long do composite doors last? They are a long-term item, no rot, no repainting, and the finish holds its colour. The installation is covered by our insurance-backed guarantee, which reflects how we expect them to perform.

Will the colour fade in the sun?Composite finishes are far more colour-stable than paint on timber. A south-facing door will always see more UV than a north-facing one, but you are not looking at the annual repaint a timber door demands.

Do you handle emergency door replacements? We are an installation business, not a 24-hour emergency service. Ring 01543 524436 in opening hours (Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 10am to 2pm) and we will be straight with you about what we can do and when.

Can you match the door to my windows?Yes. Colour and hardware finish are chosen at survey and can be coordinated with existing or new Eurocell, Rehau or Smarts frames.

Do you fit composite doors outside your immediate area?Yes: We work right across Staffordshire and the surrounding areas.

What payment methods do you accept?Cash or bank transfer only. No credit cards, no finance. Deposits vary by the size and type of job.
