The service

## What double glazing does, and what decides whether it works
Double glazing is two panes of glass separated by a sealed cavity. The cavity is the insulation. When the seal fails, the cavity fills with moist air, the pane mists up, and the window stops doing the job you paid for, which is why a blown unit is not a cosmetic issue.

Members of our team spent time in a glass shop making double-glazed units before moving into fitting, so the specification advice here comes from people who have built the product, not read the brochure. That covers unit make-up, obscure and toughened options, and which frame the glass should sit in.

We supply and install across every frame type we fit: Eurocell UPVC, premium Rehau UPVC and Smarts aluminium. Domestic and commercial premises alike, across south Staffordshire, for years.

### Houses with misted or blown units
Condensation between the panes means the seal has gone. The unit has stopped insulating and only replacement fixes it.

### Single-glazed properties
The biggest single comfort upgrade available to most older homes, in heat and in noise together.

### Early double glazing from decades ago
Old units and old frames underperform badly against anything made today. Often the frames are due at the same time.

### Noisy roads and busy streets
Sealed double glazing cuts a meaningful amount of traffic and neighbour noise out of the room.

What it costs to leave it

## A blown unit is not cosmetic, it is a hole in your heating bill
Misted glass gets treated as an eyesore rather than a fault. It is a fault. The unit has lost its seal, the insulating cavity is compromised, and the window is now performing closer to single glazing than to what you paid for.

### Heat loss that repeats every month
Every heating bill from now until the unit is replaced carries the cost. It does not improve and it does not stabilise.

### Condensation, then mould
Cold internal glass and cold frames condense moisture from the room, which lands on the reveal and the sill and turns to black mould in the corners.

### Damage to plaster and decoration
Persistent condensation perishes plaster, lifts paint and stains wallpaper. Replacing decoration always costs more than people expect.

### The mistakes we get called out to fix

- Wiping the glass and assuming the misting will clear: a failed seal never recovers
- Replacing a unit in a frame that has already dropped, then paying twice
- Buying on headline price with no idea of the unit specification behind it
- Ignoring toughened-glass requirements near doors and at low level
- Skipping trickle ventilation and creating a condensation problem elsewhere
- Using an installer with no insurance-backed guarantee, so nothing survives the company folding

Our process

## Five steps, the same on every job we take on
Step 1

### Inspection
We check each unit and each frame and tell you which need glass, which need replacing outright and which are fine. Free verbal quote.

Step 2

### Measured survey
Sizes, glazing specification, obscure and toughened requirements and ventilation all confirmed. And the specification is written down and agreed before we proceed.

Step 3

### Order confirmed
Units and frames made to your measurements. Price fixed at order and never added to. Minimum 10 weeks from order.

Step 4

### Installation
Old glass or frames out, new units bedded and beaded correctly, frames sealed inside and out, everything cleaned down.

Step 5

### Verification and guarantee
Each opener is operated and adjusted with you present, then the work is registered for the IWA insurance-backed guarantee.

What you get

## The difference a properly fitted job makes

### Rooms that hold their heat
A sealed, intact cavity keeps the warmth you have paid for on the inside of the glass, right through a Staffordshire winter.

### Noticeably less noise
Sealed double glazing takes the edge off traffic, aircraft and neighbours: especially on the main routes through town.

### No more misted panes
New units, properly bedded and drained, in frames that are square. Misting comes back when the fitting is wrong, not when the glass is new.

### Less condensation indoors
Warmer internal glass surfaces mean far less moisture forming on the pane, the sill and the reveal.

### Priced once
Transparent, written pricing agreed at survey, never added to once the job has started.

### Insurance-backed cover
IWA guarantee on frames and workmanship, Assured registered, comprehensive public liability insurance.

In detail

## Sealed units, frames and specification, the parts that matter
Double glazing is a system: the glass, the spacer, the seal, the frame and the fitting. A weakness in any one of them shows up as the same symptom: cold, noise or misting.

### How a sealed unit is built
Two panes are separated by a spacer bar around the perimeter and sealed to lock a dry, insulating cavity inside. That perimeter seal is the whole ball game, while it holds, the unit performs; once it fails, moisture gets in and mists the cavity.

Because our team has made units in a glass shop, we know what separates a well-made unit from a cheap one, and we specify accordingly rather than taking whatever arrives.

### Choosing the right frame
Eurocell UPVC is our standard system and suits the majority of domestic replacements. Rehau is the premium UPVC option for exposed elevations, larger openings and front elevations where appearance carries more weight.

Smarts aluminium is specified where slim sightlines and large panes matter: modern extensions, picture windows and commercial frontages.

### Glass options
Obscure glazing for bathrooms and any window overlooking a neighbour. Toughened safety glass where building regulations require it: near doors, at low level and in full-height glazing.

Where a window is a designated fire escape, escape hinges are specified at survey. These decisions are made before ordering, not improvised on fitting day.

### Ventilation and condensation
Modern glazing seals a house up tightly, and moisture generated inside has to go somewhere. Trickle ventilation is specified where it is needed so that solving the cold glass problem does not create a damp problem elsewhere in the room.

If you already have persistent condensation, we will tell you honestly whether new glazing will fix it or whether ventilation is the real issue.

### Full replacement versus reglazing
If the frame is sound, square and modern, replacing the failed unit alone is a sensible, economical repair and we will say so.

If the frame has dropped, the hardware is worn or the profile is decades old, reglazing is money spent twice. We would rather lose the smaller job than sell you the wrong one.

### Commercial glazing
We handle glazing and door installations for commercial premises as well as houses, working around opening hours where possible so the business keeps trading.

Note that we do not work on listed or heritage properties, domestic or commercial, that is specialist work with its own consent route.

Questions we get asked

## Double Glazing: straight answers
How much does double glazing cost in your area?It depends on how many openings, the frame system and the glazing specification. After a survey we give you a written quote, itemised and clear, before you decide anything. Quotes come back quickly.

How long does the work take? Most houses are one to three days on site. The lead time from order to fitting is a minimum of 10 weeks because everything is made to your measurements.

Can you fix a misted window without replacing the whole frame?Sometimes. If the frame is sound and square, replacing the sealed unit is the right repair. If the frame has dropped or the hardware is worn, replacing the glass alone means doing the job twice.

What guarantee do I get on double glazing?Insurance-backed through IWA, covering the workmanship and the frames. We are Assured registered, the competent persons scheme equivalent to FENSA and Certass, and carry comprehensive public liability cover.

How long do sealed units last?As long as the perimeter seal holds. Correct bedding, correct drainage and a square frame are what protect it, which is why our fitting matters as much as the unit itself.

Will double glazing stop condensation? It stops condensation caused by cold glass, which is most of it. If the room generates a lot of moisture and has no ventilation, we will tell you that up front rather than let you find out afterwards.

Does new glazing reduce noise?Yes, noticeably. Sealed double glazing cuts road and neighbour noise considerably compared with single glazing or a failed unit.

Do you offer emergency glazing? We are an installation business rather than a 24-hour emergency glazier. Call 01543 524436 during opening hours (Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 10am to 2pm) and we will tell you honestly what we can do.

Which areas do you cover?Staffordshire and the surrounding areas, including the villages in between.

How do I pay?Cash or bank transfer only, no credit cards and no finance. Deposits vary depending on the size and type of job.
